Anvil is proud to announce the successful completion of The Boathouse Café, located at the picturesque Boating Lake within Alexandra Palace. This project reflects our unwavering commitment to quality, innovation, and client satisfaction, bringing together nature-inspired aesthetics and sustainable design principles.

Working closely with the Alexandra Palace team, we embraced an exciting brief that focused on community engagement and the serene beauty of the surrounding nature and boating on the adjacent lake. Every detail was thoughtfully curated to create a space that feels both inviting and environmentally responsible.

Sustainable Materials & Finishes

One of the standout features is the handcrafted silver-blue Hemp grasscloth wallcovering by Phillip Jeffries. Hemp is a remarkable eco-friendly material—growing an acre in just six months compared to decades for a forest, requiring no herbicides, and actively improving soil health while absorbing carbon. The result is a tactile, textured wallpaper with an exceptional environmental footprint.

Complementing this, we incorporated:

• FSC-certified solid oak for joinery
• VOC-free paints
• Flooring with post-consumer recycled content

Circular Economy in Action

To minimize waste and reduce carbon emissions, we upcycled the existing serving counter and self-service station, giving them a fresh new look inspired by the boats on the lake. This approach not only preserved resources but also added a unique character to the space.

Commercial Kitchen Revamp

Behind the scenes, the commercial kitchen was completely redesigned and upgraded to meet modern hospitality standards. Although a compact space, the new layout improves workflow efficiency, integrates energy-saving appliances, and ensures compliance with the latest food safety regulations. This transformation supports the café’s ability to deliver exceptional service while maintaining sustainability goals.

Celebrating Heritage

The Café now features a Heritage Photography Gallery, showcasing Alexandra Palace’s rich history and creating an added attraction for visitors. Combined with great food, coffee, and stunning surroundings, The Boathouse Café is set to become a vibrant hub for community events and special occasions.
